1. Attribute Mapping - 3DEXPERIENCE

Find out in this article how to add attributes to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Throughout this article, the different steps for adding attributes to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform will be detailed.

Properties and attributes.

A property (SOLIDWORKS) or an attribute (3DEXPERIENCE) is data with a name, type, and value.

For example, the property: [Material, text, Hardened Steel].

They can be assigned to parts, assemblies, or drawings to access data or assign them (such as a supplier name, a revision number, or a last modification date).

First, let's see how to create attributes on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

  1. Firstly, open the Platform Manager and click on the Content tab.
  2. Scroll down to find the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center application. Double-click the name to display it in full screen.
  3. Scroll down to find the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center application. Double-click the name to display it in full screen.
  4. Click on the βž• to create a new attribute. The creation menu then appears:

There are several options in this menu:

  • The type of property: This can be a string, a Boolean (Yes/No), a date, or a number.
  • The property name is important as it will be used by the platform to interact with SOLIDWORKS. Therefore, it should be short, meaningful, and cannot contain special characters.
  • The title is what will be displayed in the platform interface when we search for our attribute.

For example, if we want to create a property for the supplier's name of a part, we would have:

  • Type: string
  • Name: Supplier_Name
  • Title: Supplier Name
  • The mandatory character of an attribute: If an attribute is mandatory, a file cannot be saved without filling it in beforehand.

5.  After clicking OK to save the attribute, click Apply to ensure that it is properly taken into account.

6. Now that we have created the attribute, we will link it with SOLIDWORKS so that we can use it. Go back to the Collaborative Spaces Configuration Center application (Step 2). In the same menu as Attributes Management, scroll down to find the "CAD Collaboration" function. Then click on SOLIDWORKS.

7.  Depending on the type of component to which we want to apply the attribute (Assembly, Part, or Drawing), scroll down to the corresponding menu and click on the βž•.

8. In the window that opens, we will be able to select the attribute we created and choose the direction in which the information is transmitted between the platform and SOLIDWORKS.

9. Click Apply and then again on Apply to properly save the attribute.

10.To ensure that the platform properly takes into account our changes, we will go to the Deployment Configuration tab.

In the "Configuration and Server Utilities" section, click on Update Index Model and then on Reload Cache.

11. Finally, in the Attributes Propagation section, click on Search and then on Propagate.

Your attributes are now linked to SOLIDWORKS and you can use them πŸ‘
