Do you need to integrate deformable components such as springs, cable clamps, cylinders, etc.? This is the place!
Deformable components are used when you need to integrate the same part twice in the same assembly, but with a slightly different geometry.
For example, if you want to represent the same spring twice, but at different compression levels.
Here's how to define such components ๐
Step 1: Modify CATIA preferences
First of all, go to your preferences in CATIA and check the option โInsert a new deformable fromโ :
Step 2: Update Env.txt variables
Next, you need to tell CATIA that the deformable components you're going to use will be based on parameters. Here's how to do it:
- Go to the CATEnv folder
๐ Path : C:\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\B426_Cloud\CATEnv - Open the Env.txt file using Notepad++ (as administrator)
- Download the following file: Flexible part variables
- Copy the lines of code from this file into the Env.txt document
- Save
Step 3: Create the component and select the parameters to be changed
To make it easier to manage your deformable components, it's a good idea to use parameters for the dimensions that are going to change.
A quick reminder about parameters and how to use them? ๐ It's over here!
Step 4: Define the component as deformable
Now that our component is complete and the parameters have been defined, we just need to tell CATIA that it's a deformable component:
Step 5: Insert the component into an assembly
Now that our component is ready, it's time to integrate it into our assembly:
If you copy/paste a deformable component, the new component will be linked to the component you copied. If you change the dimension of one, the other will also change.
Conclusion:
Now you know how to create and use deformable components!
