3. Assign automatic names to your files

Need to have uniform file names automatically? Find out how to set it up with 3DEXPERIENCE.

What's the point?

Automatic naming in CAD ensures standardisation of files, making them easier to manage and search.

Please note: once activated, automatic names apply to all members of the platform.

Step 1: Create the automatic name on the platform

In "Content naming rules" in "Platform Management", define your automatic name according to the component to which you want to apply it.

Note: define the automatic names for each type of content

  • Parts and Assemblies: "CAD Family"
  • Drawing: "Drawing".

Step 2: Activate automatic naming of elements

Go to "CAD Collaboration" and enable automatic naming for SOLIDWORKS.

Step 3: Reload the cache

Go to "Deploy configuration" to reload the cache and ensure that automatic names are applied in SOLIDWORKS.

Step 4: Standardise the counter for parts and their drawings

By default, the counter is unique to each type of component. This means that a part will not necessarily have the same name as its associated drawing, because the counter will be different.

To ensure that the part and its drawing have the same name, activate the corresponding option in the SOLIDWORKS "MySession" tab.

Conclusion

From now on, your 3D files will be named automatically without the need for any further modification.
